Mothers are always protective of their children. I'm no different. When my son went on his first out of town, overnight trip with his school, I was uneasy. It's his first time away from home on his own. This was just a bus trip, 3 hours long. But he proved to be responsible. He didn't lose anything. He didn't get in trouble. And he didn't even spent all the money that I gave him. He brought souvenir for his sister too. So sweet. That was in May of this year. He was in Grade 8.

This coming February, he is again going on a school field trip. This time it's via plane and it's going to be 4 days and 3 nights long! I think the cost was a rip off, I didn't want him to go because of the cost. But he is willing to use his own savings to go on this trip. I decided if he is willing to spend his savings, then he really wants to go. It's a good thing the school got installment plan for this one. It was just hard to put out $1000 one time. Yes, it is going to cost me that much! My son is so excited that he got his list ready on what to pack. :-)

    Hi Jo,

    Thanks for your visit!
Well yeah... I can imagine that it is a bit troublesome to read Dutch.
Maybe I should blog in English...?
Sometimes I do... but sometimes thoughts do come more easily in your own language don't they?
It's great to learn about your son being that responsible.
See... He's turning out just fine!
    BIG SMILE HERE...
Our son is going on a trip (a whole week) every year in may… come may it’ll be the third time for a week, before that they went for two days (two times) than for three days.
Luckily all the kids get some founding, the parents are left with only about € 130 (about 175$).
The Netherlands are a small country… they don’t go that far away from home.
    By the way… our Martijn is attending to a school for kids with special needs;
He’s got Down Syndrome and is autistic.
1000$ for a school fieldtrip… is that common in the US?
Seems a terrible lot of money to me… How do parents do that if they have even two or more kids?
Well… I wish you all the best.
See you soon on the web…

    Greets,

    Gabi

Thanks Gabi! Your English is good, you should try to blog in English sometime.

Regarding field trip, a friend's son trip is in Los Angeles and it cost them $2000 I think. Montreal trip is around $1800+. So my son's $1000 is actually cheaper already. But yes, not most family can afford this. I can barely afford it myself.

Thanks for your comment and hope to see you back soon.

you have such a inspiring blog....
I was such a nice treat to be able to read this.

and going into my early adulthood, it is so nice to know that there are parents out there who understand the concept of their children growing up.

I feel like to little parents understand this concept :)

    such a heart warming piece.
