Do you have a green thumb?

My friend back in Toronto is very good at growing plants. Her house is full of different types of plants and flowers. I don't have a green thumb and all that could survive in my hands are the chinese bamboo tree.

Now that we have our own home, I am planning to be one of the many planters out there. I just hope the plants won't die on me. Any tips for me?
